SC FFA Participates in the Ohio Capitol Youth Challenge

On July 26, 2014, nine South Central FFA members traveled to the Ohio State Fair Grounds in Columbus where they participated in the Ohio Capitol Youth Challenge. The FFA members were chosen from around the state to participate in a two-day training event in February where they learned about public policy and legislation. They have been preparing since to create two public policy presentations to compete with at the State Fair Grounds. One presentation was on Fresh Food Awareness; a policy that not only increased the amount of fresh food provided to food pantries, but also educated the public on fresh food preparation. This presentation was created by Amy Gannett, Rebeka Mikalacki, Terry Copsey, Rachel Mikalacki, and Miles Burton. The other members created a presentation on Watershed Improvement and Manure Management increasing filter strip sizes and water testing. The members who created this were Zeb Burton, Jeremiah Adams, Greg Cornish, and Kara Walcher. The Fresh Food Awareness presentation won third place in the State and both teams received State recognition. Congratulations to all members who participated!
