Approximately 3,500 American FFA
Degrees are handed out each year at the National FFA Convention &
Expo. That number represents less than
half of one percent of all FFA members, making it one of the organization’s
highest honors. On November 1st, 2014, the South Central FFA Chapter
had three members that received this coveted honor this year; Megan Cornish,
Bethany Lortcher and David Seidel. In
order to achieve the American Degree the members had to receive the State FFA
Degree, have worked a minimum of 2, 250 in their Supervised Agricultural
Experience, complete various community service projects, home improvement
projects, and participate in various FFA functions while maintaining high
academic standards.
Megan Cornish is the daughter of
Dave and Daphne Cornish of North Fairfield.
Megan works on the family farm, Cornish Farms, working with replacement
heifers and owning her own dairy heifers that she shows on a local, state and
national level. Megan currently attends
The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute majoring in
Agricultural Communications.
Carrie Lortcher is the daughter of
Chad and Kathy Lortcher of Willard.
Carrie works on Gravel Ridge Farm, their family farm, working with
cattle, pigs, turkeys and the grain operation.
Carrie currently attends Bowling Green State University Firelands
majoring in Early Childhood Development.
David Seidel is the son of Rob and
Michele Seidel of Greenwich, David works with the family’s hog farm, Maple Lawn
Farms and the family’s chicken operation, Four Reasons. David also assists with the grain and hay operations,
as well as, cattle. David current
attends Wilmington College where he is majoring in Veterinary Science.
