Urban and Rural Soils

On September 20, the South Central FFA competed in their first soils competition. They had two teams compete Rural and Urban. The Rural team evaluates the land for agricultural and environmental uses through the identification of slope, landforms, texture, drainage and restrictive layers. The rural team consisted of Miles Burton, Madison Fry, Kendall Keene, Travis Lortcher, Andrew Maddison, Danielle Ott, Grant Seidel, and Taylor Sexton.Miles Burton placed 1st overall and the team came in 1st blowing away all the competition.The Urban team evaluates the land for construction properties, home building, and landscaping through the identification of slope, landforms, texture, drainage, structure and restrictive layers. The team consists of Ally Burton, Kaycee Burton, Desiree Chill, Sierra Chill, Brooke Gahring Devin Hess, Maddie Vogel and Kara Walcher. Desiree Chill placed 3rd overall and Kaycee Burton place 5th overall. The Urban Team placed 2nd in the County and will be advancing to Districts.
