On October 29th the South Central Rural and Urban FFA Soils team competed in the County Soils contest, which is also attended by Lorain, Erie and Holmes County FFA chapters. The Rural team consisted of Jeremiah Adams, Miles Burton, Marshall Wheeler, Andrew Madison, Grant Seidel, Travis Lortcher, and Matt Whiteside. The Rural team evaluates the land for agricultural and environmental uses through the identification of slope, landforms, texture, drainage and restrictive layers. As a team, they placed second overall against eleven teams. In addition, Miles Burton was the first place overall individual.
The Urban team consisted of Terry Copsey, Rachel Mikalacki, Kaycee Burton, Desiree Chill, Matt O’Dell, Summer Sweeting, Kennedy Risner, and Chesnee Pope. The Urban team evaluates the land for construction properties, home building, and landscaping through the identification of slope, landforms, texture, drainage, structure and restrictive layers. As a team, they placed first overall against ten teams. In addition, Terry Copsey was second overall individual, Rachel Mikalacki place third overall individual, and Kaycee Burton was fourth place overall individual.
Both teams are now headed to districts where they will face twenty-five FFA chapters where they will need to be in the top five teams to qualify for the State competition. Congratulations and Good luck.
