Rick Rigsby

On March 6th, the South Central FFA welcomed speaker, Dr. Rick Rigsby. Dr. Rick Rigsby is President and CEO of Rick Rigsby Communications. Through corporate coaching, books, social media outlets and motivational speaking, Dr. Rick Rigsby empowers audience members to become great people who do great things. Dr. Rick Rigsby is a San Francisco native who is a former award-winning journalist, who followed a television news career with six years of graduate school, graduating with a Ph. D from the University of Oregon. The next two decades Rick spent his time as a college professor at Texas A&M University where he also served as a character coach and chaplain for the Aggies football team. On top of all that he is the author of Lessons from a Third Grade Dropout. He came to speak to the whole high school student body about taking high school seriously and how to be successful. He told the story of his father, the 3rd grade dropout, one of the wisest guys he has every met. He spoke of how everything he learned in life was from his father, even though he was a third grade dropout. His father taught him to always be an hour early to work, even if it meant showing up at 5am. He told the story of how he lost his wife to cancer, and how it was the first time he had ever seen his father cry. His father told him “Son, just stand.” His father taught him to not let one tragic ending determine his fate in life. By inviting people like Dr. Rick Rigsby to our school it really puts an impact of people. On behalf of the South Central FFA, we would like to thank the rest of the student body and staff for taking time out of the day to be part of this wonderful speech.
