SC Receives National Recognition

- South Central named a Best Community for Music for the 2nd consecutive year -

The NAMM Foundation has recognized South Central for its outstanding commitment to music education with a Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) designation. South Central joins 388 districts across the country in receiving the prestigious distinction in 2015, and is the only school in Huron County to be so honored.

Now in its 16th year, Best Communities for Music Education affirms school districts that have demonstrated exceptional efforts toward maintaining music education as part of schools’ core curriculum. South Central Local Schools continue to focus on a quality music program and provide big district opportunities in a right-sized setting for its students, staff, and community.

To be considered for the award, interested schools and districts completed the BCME survey that asked detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs. Survey responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Center for Public Partnerships and Research, an affiliate of the University of Kansas.

“It is exciting that the hard work of our music teachers, students, parents, and community are being recognized at a national level,” stated David Brand, superintendent, South Central Local Schools. “We are truly a close-knit family that does everything possible for our students to succeed.”
