County Parli Pro

On November 16th the South Central FFA participated in County Parliamentary Procedure. This is one of the most important things the officer team has to learn. In order to hold and have a proper meeting, parli must be done properly. The purpose of the parliamentary procedure leadership development event is to encourage students to learn to effectively participate in a business meeting and to assist in the development of their leadership, research, and critical thinking skills. During the contest members are taken to a room set up as it would during an FFA meeting, the Secretary and President facing the rest of the officers. Each officer is then given an ability. The abilities can be anything from calling for a question of personal privilege to withdrawing a motion. They have two minutes at the beginning to discuss who is doing what and when they will do it. They then have six minutes to properly discuss two motions, and do their abilities. Each member must get in three or more discussion on whether they are for the motion or against it, before the time is up. During the six minutes the secretary must take notes and his/her notes will be looked over by the judges. By the end of the contests members will be able to: use parliamentary procedure to conduct an orderly and efficient meeting, demonstrate knowledge of parliamentary law, present logical, realistic, conving debate on a motion, and to evaluate minutes and organizational documents. The team consists of President, Miles Burton, Vice President, Marshall Wheeler, Secretary, Kara Walcher, Treasurer, Travis Lortcher, Reporter, Kaycee Burton, Student Advisor, Grant Seidel, Sentinel, Andrew Madison, and Parliamentarian, Tommy Reising. The South Central FFA Parli Pro team placed 2nd. The team will advance onto Sub-Districts.
